A Son Of Man

The Word of God did not deem
equality with the Father
something to be hoarded;
rather, divesting Himself
of the marks of His divinity,
He took on the condition of creature--
appearing in human form,
verily becoming a son of man.

Walking among His neighbors, Jesus
saw the fragile beauty of flowers in bloom,
heard with delight songs of birds on wing,
smelled rain in breezes whipping off the Sea of Galilee,
tasted the wholesome goodness of grilled fish and baked bread,
touched many with healing, felt both their affection and rejection,
because the Son of God--for love of humankind--
became for us the Son of Man.
