Whence This World

Whence came this world
So ruled by sunlight and moontide,
So green with throbbing life
Upon islands in the great salt seas?
Of it I am a part.

Whence came this world,
Set apart for life
Amid the myriad stars and galaxies
Of time and chance and space?
Of it I am a part.

Whence came this world
Where man hates man,
Yet is mandated for love?
Where selfish life must die to live?
Of it I am a part.

Whence came this world
To be the realm of those who think
No god could make worlds they cannot,
And thus call the world ‘not of God’?
Of it am I a part?
