Foretold by Isaiah,
meek Victim led to slaughter,
You suffered for love
of the will of the Father;
Betrayed for silver,
and with lies put on trial,
Assaulted with treachery,
mockery and denial,
You, the Creator-Savior,
died reviled by Your creatures!
Arrested by temple priests
plotting to kill their Messiah,
Bullied by seditious crowds
and conscripted soldiers alike,
Queried by the Governor--
foreign appointee, an agnostic,
Bloodied by his cruel game
of sating both jealous leaders and sadistic mercenaries,
You, their Creator-Savior,
died reviled by Your creatures!
Foretold by Isaiah,
meek Victim led to slaughter,
You healed many wounded
by Your stripes, Your painful dying;
Placed in a borrowed grave,
in three days more was rising;
Seen by saints along the road, at the shore,
in upper room beyond locked door,
You, our Creator-Savior,
died reviled by Your creatures!
