Your Irish Sweater

The pile of an Aran sweater
is a thick grip of buff-colored wool,
its design, the insignia of a village
imprinted upon the fisherman it had spawned.

The pile of an Aran sweater
smells of sheep, each woven strand
naturally waterproofed, impregnated with the oil
of one that had grazed in all winds weathersafe.

The pile of your Aran sweater
speaks of your wide girth of courage, husband,
warm protector of others in their storms of life;
its manliness your own.
